No Code Games 2.5D — Build Classic 2.5D Games Without Coding

*You will need to get some CC0 sprites/tiles or purchase/make sprites/tiles. I will be releasing some free spritesheets in the future.

*This is very much in alpha. I have created a few quick games for testing purposes.

*This program supports software, OpenGL2.1, and Open GL3.3 rendering. I suggest when buildiing your game you stick with Open GL2.1 until I get 3.3 fully sorted out and working properly.

Create fast, atmospheric 2.5D games inspired by the classic FPS, RPG, action, and adventure games of the 1990s—without writing code.

No Code Games 2.5D is a visual game-making engine designed for creators who want the look and feel of classic Doom-, Duke Nukem-, and Hexen-style games with a modern, approachable workflow.

Build maps, place sprites, create enemies, add doors and elevators, design quests, set up lighting, construct HUDs, configure AI, and connect entire worlds using visual tools instead of traditional programming.

Whether you're creating a retro FPS, dungeon crawler, RPG, platformer, racing game, exploration game, or your own experimental 2.5D project, NCG2.5D gives you the tools to go from an empty level to a playable game.

Build Your Game Visually

Design your levels using intuitive 2D and 3D editing tools. Construct rooms, corridors, outdoor areas, platforms, tunnels, dungeons, and interconnected maps while seeing how your world comes together.

Place walls, floors, ceilings, sprites, enemies, decorations, lights, pickups, doors, and interactive objects directly into your levels.

No traditional programming experience is required.

Visual Action Blocks

Bring your game to life with a visual action system.

Assign gameplay behaviors to players, enemies, objects, walls, floors, doors, triggers, and other elements without manually writing scripts.

Create interactions such as:

  • Doors and switches
  • Pickups and inventory items
  • Enemy encounters
  • Teleports and level transitions
  • Dialogue
  • Quests
  • Shops
  • Environmental triggers
  • Moving platforms
  • Elevators and lifts
  • Dynamic events
  • Player abilities
  • AI behaviors
  • Game objectives

Complex gameplay can be assembled from reusable visual building blocks.

Classic 2.5D Graphics With Modern Features

NCG2.5D combines sprite-based environments with features normally associated with much larger engines.

Create scenes using:

  • Sprite-based characters and enemies
  • 2.5D walls and environments
  • Dynamic lighting
  • Dynamic shadows
  • Fog and atmospheric effects
  • Light shafts
  • Parallax backgrounds
  • Parallax walls, floors, and skies
  • Animated sprites
  • Directional character animation
  • Transparent textures
  • Materials and visual effects

You can build everything from dark torch-lit dungeons to outdoor rivers, industrial facilities, alien landscapes, towns, race tracks, and surreal environments.

Powerful Enemy AI

Create enemies that do more than simply chase the player.

The engine supports advanced AI behaviors for different combat roles, including:

  • Solo enemies
  • Fireteams
  • Flankers
  • Support units
  • Medics
  • Search teams
  • Boss guards
  • Coordinated squads
  • Sound-reactive enemies
  • Enemies that spread out and reposition

Use these systems to create encounters that feel more dynamic and less predictable.

First-Person and Third-Person Gameplay

NCG2.5D isn't limited to one perspective.

Projects can use:

First-person gameplay for traditional retro shooters and dungeon crawlers.

Third-person gameplay using directional player sprites.

The engine also supports animated first-person weapons, allowing you to create firearms, melee weapons, alternate attacks, and other weapon systems.

Dialogue, Quests, Shops, and RPG Systems

Build more than shooters.

Create characters that talk to the player, give quests, operate shops, unlock new areas, and react to events in your game.

Combine dialogue, objectives, inventory systems, pickups, doors, world transitions, and visual action blocks to build full RPG and adventure-style experiences.

Build Connected Worlds

Your game doesn't have to be a collection of isolated maps.

Create multiple rooms, levels, and worlds and connect them using:

  • Doors
  • Portals
  • Level transitions
  • World transitions
  • Persistent room systems
  • Triggered events

Build sprawling dungeons, towns, interconnected facilities, multi-level adventures, or entire campaigns.

Built-In HUD Editor

Design the interface your game needs.

Create custom HUD layouts for:

  • Health
  • Armor
  • Ammunition
  • Inventory
  • Objectives
  • Player information
  • Custom game statistics

HUD layouts can be tailored to different game styles instead of forcing every project into the same interface.

Built-In 2.5D Asset Tools

NCG2.5D includes tools designed specifically for working with sprite-based games.

Import artwork and configure it for use as:

  • Characters
  • Monsters
  • Decorations
  • Weapons
  • Pickups
  • Environmental objects
  • Animated assets

Directional animation tools help organize multi-angle character sprites, including traditional 4-direction and 8-direction sprite sets.

The upright 2.5D conversion workflow also helps turn suitable artwork into assets that fit naturally inside a sprite-based 3D environment.

Doors, Platforms, Stairs, Ramps, and Moving Geometry

Create environments that feel interactive rather than static.

The engine supports features including:

  • Sliding doors
  • Hinged doors
  • Lifts
  • Elevators
  • Moving platforms
  • Ramps
  • Stairs
  • Spiral stairs
  • Tunnels
  • Multi-room structures
  • Interior and exterior areas

Combine these with triggers and action blocks to create puzzles, traps, secret areas, scripted sequences, and dynamic levels.

Multiple Rendering Options

NCG2.5D includes multiple rendering paths so projects can be tested across different performance and compatibility targets.

Available renderer options include:

  • Software rendering
  • OpenGL 2.1
  • OpenGL 3.3

A built-in benchmarking system can also help evaluate how your project performs under different renderer configurations.

Create More Than FPS Games

Although NCG2.5D is ideal for retro shooters, its tools can support many different styles of games.

Create:

  • Retro first-person shooters
  • Dungeon crawlers
  • RPGs
  • Horror games
  • Adventure games
  • Platformers
  • Racing games
  • Arena combat games
  • Exploration games
  • Experimental 2.5D projects

The visual systems are designed to give you building blocks rather than lock you into one genre.

Designed for Independent Creators

No Code Games 2.5D is built for people who have ideas for games but don't want traditional programming to be the barrier that prevents them from creating them.

Import your own artwork, assemble your world visually, configure gameplay with action blocks, test your game, refine it, and turn your ideas into something playable.

You can start small with a single room and a few enemies—or build an interconnected game with quests, AI squads, dynamic lighting, custom HUDs, multiple worlds, and complex interactions.

Make the Game You Want to Play

You shouldn't need to become a programmer before you can start designing games.

Build the levels. Place the enemies. Create the quests. Design the world. Press Play.

No Code Games 2.5D puts game creation in the hands of the creator.
